All the things

We had an exciting week with friends visiting from out of town.  Lots of cooking, beer tasting, sightseeing and the kids all got along as if no time had passed.  When kids get a bit older it gets so much more fun to hang out–they have fun and the adults can learn what it’s like to have normal conversations again.  If you still have the young ones that need lots of supervision, know that it won’t always be that way.

Parc des Chutes-de-la-Chaudiere

Yea! A rainbow in the falls. This is the first time I have visited Parc des Chutes-de-la-Chaudière. It’s a popular local destination for enjoying nature paths and beautiful views. We walked along a wooded path, crossed a suspension foot bridge (that made my stomach very uneasy) and hung out on the rocks beneath the falls. Will definitely go back again.

We cooked dinner at home every night and I am so glad we did. After a visit to île d’Orleans to go trout fishing (again) we scoped out the local food scene and loaded up on local strawberries, a ton of maple products and later our friends returned to pick up some quail. I’d never eaten quail, but as they were raised on a farm and my friend was in charge of cooking them I decided to give it a try. As you could guess I am always in charge of the vegetables and salads!

the immigrants table chopped salad

One salad I made was an Israeli chopped salad from Ksenia the creater of the beautiful blog At the Immigrant’s Table. This salad was the star of the dinner. Seriously. You can get the recipe here.

    1. Oh yes, Robyna. Truly it was hard to imagine the day I wouldn’t be hunched over at every party keeping sharp objects out of my kids’ mouths and speaking in single sentence conversational spurts! And now it is really rewarding to see them looking after themselves and the games and activities they invent. Slowly, slowly then all of a sudden.

    1. Ha ha, yes I was a little surprised at myself for feeling my stomach flip up there but I made it across. And we may have to wait for July for strawberries to be in full swing up here but nothing beats em! Take care my friend 🙂
